SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED - The Coast Reporter June 6, 2008
Knowledge and appreciation of classical music received a boost last week with the announcement of eight young Sunshine Coast musicians who received scholarship from the Coast Recital Society (CRS).
The recipients were saluted at the society's annual general meeting in Sechelt.
"Our scholarship committee was thrilled to see so many students of varied ages, many playing two or more instruments, and all showing a keen interest in classical music," said CRS president Mary Lea Bell, when awarding the prizes.
“The society is delighted to further their musical education. Love of classical music is a lifelong gift.”
Receiving $450 CRS scholarships are 19-year-old Nathan Bosse of Sechelt and Kiel Strang, 14, of Roberts Creek.
The three students who were awarded $300 scholarships are: Holly Beckmyer, 16, of Roberts Creek; Liam Bonser, 14, of Roberts Creek; and Oliver Gidora, 14, of Halfmoon Bay. Three $200 scholarships were given to Maya Broeke, 11, of Gibsons; Julia Shibasaka, 11, of Langdale; and 10-year-old Talia Strang of Roberts Creek.
