A FEW MORE ON SATURDAY - The Coast Reporter February 2, 2007
Blow the trumpet! Bang the drum! Sound the strings! An unusual musical ensemble, playing a pot-pourri of chamber music for winds and strings awaits the audience, 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 3rd at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.
The Coast Recital Society presents A Few More, named for the award-winning trumpet player, Guy Few, and featuring a roster of players assembled by B.C.’s indefatigable musical impresario and virtuoso bassoonist, George Zuckerman.
In addition to Few and Zuckerman, A Few More includes François Houle, clarinet; Wilbur Fawcett, double bass; Jane Hayes, piano; Graham Boyle, percussion; and members of the Borealis String Quartet: Patricia Shih, violin; Yuel Yawney, violin; Nikita Pogrebnoy; and She-lin Chen, cello.
“George Zuckerman is a master of the bassoon and a master arranger of talent,” says CRS artistic director Frances Wainwright. “For this concert, he promises a selection of gems for all sorts of different instrumental combinations. And, this ensemble has it all: dynamic performance, passionate style, and refined musical interpretation. With their limitless combination of instruments, and their remarkable choices of varied repertoire, we promise a luxuriant journey through beautiful musical landscapes.”
The A Few More concert program includes works by composers Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Alfredo Casella, Bohuslav Martinu, Silvestre Revueltas, Michael Glinka, and quite possibly, a few more.
