CRS EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS - The Coast Reporter January 19, 2007

Coast Recital Society (CRS) is extending the deadline for scholarships and awards to Feb. 16.

Coast students wishing to further their musical education are invited to submit applications to the Society as soon as possible. Previous winners are welcome to reapply.

Applications must include: a letter noting the applicant's age, education and music experience, description of how the applicant intends to use the scholarship money, information on other funding applied for or received by the applicant and a tape, CD or video of at least 10 minutes duration, recorded by the applicant within the past 12 months.

"Coast Recital Society is a proud contributor to the evolution of excellent music performance on the Sunshine Coast," said artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright, noting the amounts awarded annually have almost trebled since 1998. "Our scholarship winners are the next generation of musicians, teachers, and lovers of classical music."

For instance, Mark Andrews (2001 winner) went on to study music at the University of Toronto, Danny Hart (2003) studied Scottish traditional music at Lews Castle College in Scotland, and Rose Ellen Nichols (2004) joined the vocal performance program at UBC. Last year's major winner, violist Erin MacDonald, entered the music faculty at UVIc. CRS scholarship applications, postmarked by Feb. 16, should be mailed to Coast Recital Society, P.O. Box 1010, Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A0. For more, call 604-885-0991, email coastrecital@dcccnet.com or see www.coastrecitalsociety.ca.
