FINGERS OF STEEL, HEART OF GOLD - The Coast Reporter November 24, 2006
Yevgeny Sudbin, a rising young star of the keyboard and concert hall, makes his West Coast début in Sechelt Saturday afternoon at the Raven’s Cry Theatre, presented by the Coast Recital Society (CRS).
I’m thrilled that the Sunshine Coast is one of only four Canadian stops on this his first North American tour,” said CRS artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright. “At age 26, he’s already considered one of the most important pianists of our time.”
Born in St. Petersburg in 1980, Sudbin was just 10 when he won his first international competition. He was educated at the specialist music school of the St. Petersburg Conservatory and later continued his studies in Berlin. Since 1997, he has lived in London, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Music.
“Jaw-dropping pianistic tricks never distract from the musical architecture,” wrote the Daily Telegraph of London, England. “Sudbin specializes in tiny gradation of touch and tone.”
As a soloist, Sudbin has performed extensively throughout Germany, the U.K., Italy, Switzerland, France and the U.S. Many of his frequent performances with distinguished orchestras in Ireland, Scotland, Germany and France have been broadcast on radio and television.
