JUPITER STRING QUARTET HERE SUNDAY - The Coast Reporter March 17, 2006
The Jupiter String Quartet, considered one fo the strongest young string quartest in the U.s., will perfrom the concluding concert of the coast Recital Soceity's (CRS) season this SUnday (March 19) at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt. A pre-concert chat with the artists at 1:30 precedes the ocnerts set for 2:30 p.m.
"They are talented, they are fresh, and they have arrived", wrote New York Sun's music critic when the Quartet recently performed in the city.
Formed in Cleveland in 2001, and at present based at the New England Conservatory in Boston, the musicians are Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel, violins; Liz Freivogel, viola; and Daniel McDonough, cello. In 2004, the Quartet won first prize in the eighth annual Banff INternational String Quartet Competition. their appearance in Sechelt is part of a 15-concert, cross-coutnry tour - one of the prizes awarded in the Quartet's Banff competition triumph.
"This is a coup for us to have such a wonderful young quartet appear in our series," said CRS artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright.
Jupiter's Sechelt program includes Haydn'sSunrise Quartet in B Major, Barkok's Third Quartet and Beethoven's Quartet, Opus 59, #1.
The Quartet has performed in numerous venues such as the Mostly Mozart Festival at New York's Lincoln Centre, at Carnegie's Zankel Hall and London's Wigmor Hall and in Austria, France and Italy.
