STELLAR NEW SEASON STARTS SUNDAY - The Coast Reporter – September 24, 2010

The Coast Recital Society (CRS) begins its 2010/11 season this Sunday, Sept. 26 with an afternoon of chamber music.

The concert features the internationally acclaimed Canadian pianist Anton Kuerti and the dynamic Jacques Thibaud String Trio from Berlin, performing music by Mozart, Françaix, Schubert and Schumann. The concert begins at 2:30 p.m., with a pre-concert chat at 1:30 p.m.

This year’s CRS concert series features the welcome return of artists who have previously performed for the CRS, as well as several noteworthy debuts.

“Outstanding performers and diverse repertoire, carefully chosen to engage and delight our Sunshine Coast audience, are at the heart of our programming philosophy,” said CRS artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright. “We continue our commitment to community outreach and are delighted that each year so many CRS artists perform in our Artists in the Community events in schools and eldercare residences.”

The series continues Oct. 3 with a recital by renowned Canadian pianist Angela Cheng.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, Dutch mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn, a rising star in the vocal world, performs with pianist Joseph Breinl. The Afiara String Quartet, second prize laureate of the 2010 prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition performs Feb. 13.

Richard Margison, one of Canada’s greatest tenors, and pianist Kinza Tyrrell are heard on March 27.

The subscription series concludes May 1 with a recital by the brilliant pianist Yevgeny Sudbin.

An extra concert, sold separately from the subscription series, takes place Nov. 14 featuring the National Broadcast Orchestra, formerly the CBC Radio Orchestra, with violinist Müge Büyükçelen, assistant concertmaster of the Victoria Symphony, and conductor Alain Trudel, one of the brightest stars of the young generation of Canadian conductors.

Concerts begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.
