“Beethoven at 250!”
To commemorate the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, an exceptional group of Vancouver soloists will perform a programme of rarely heard works written by Beethoven before he was thirty years of age.
The outstanding ensemble will be headed by distinguished violinist Nancy DiNovo, and will include Andrea Siradze, violin, Tawnya Popoff, viola, Rebecca Wenham, cello, Les Kasprzak, bass, Jose Franch-Ballester, clarinet, Jesse Read, bassoon and three of Vancouver’s most celebrated horn virtuosi: Steve Denroche, Holly Bryan and Andrew Clark.
The programme of Young Beethoven will be built around the marvellous Septet, Opus 20. Impresario and raconteur George Zukerman notes: “The Septet reflects a youthful cheerfulness that is often belied by the traditional image of Beethoven, tormented by the world around him. This programme will present Beethoven without the scowl.”
