Les Voix Humaines Consort of Viols

“rhythmic freedom and superb ornamentation”

British lutenist Nigel North joins Montreal’s Les Voix Humaines Consort of Viols for a performance of Lachrimae or Seven Teares, a rarely performed work for lute and viols, by the great English Renaissance composer John Dowland.

Les Voix Humaines was founded with the goal of taking a refreshing look at the huge repertoire for multiple viols. The ensemble takes its name from a viola da gamba composition by 17th century French composer Marin Marais.

The lute is one of the most gentle, subtle, yet technically demanding of “old” instruments. Nigel North is recognized internationally for his outstanding performances as soloist and ensemble musician.
