Dear friends,

I’m delighted to welcome you all to another season of the Coast Recital Society – the 41st!

Since the founding of this remarkable organization in 1984, the hard-working board and staff have put Sechelt on the international classical musical map, creating a concert series that’s recognized internationally as a superb showcase for the world’s greatest artists.

And this season is no exception. Our five regular season concerts feature extraordinary musicians from Canada and abroad – the UK’s Consone Quartet with a program of hard-core classical masterworks; the brilliant young pianist Tony Siqi Yun; the exquisite Pacific Baroque Orchestra with a superb re-visioning of Bach’s Goldberg Variations; the adventurous Ladom Ensemble from Toronto with a program that combines music and cinematic splendour and the return of the Garibaldi Trio, a spectacular ensemble that will perform another brand new work commissioned by the CRS.

But Wait! There’s More!

We’re planning an exciting three-day, three-concert festival featuring three generations of Canadian pianists celebrated around the world! All of these exceptional musicians – Kevin Chen, Charles Richard-Hamelin and Janina Fialkowska – enjoy international acclaim. It’s the kind of programming you’ll only find in the major capitals of the world.

We’re cooking up some special activities and will launch a major long-term fundraising campaign to support the refurbishing of our much-beloved Steinway piano.

Throughout the year we’ll continue to offer essential outreach programming to residents of the Sunshine Coast. Our artists offer performances in senior citizens’ facilities and high schools, master classes with exceptional young artists and our annual scholarship programme that encourages students to continue their musical studies.

I look forward to sharing all of these activities with you. The Coast Recital Society offers a special kind of sanctuary where we join together with friends and neighbours to experience the joy of listening to outstanding artists who transcend the here and now.
