“Enchants from start to finish” – Classics Today
For over 50 years, Janina Fialkowska has been among the most revered pianists on the international scene. She started lessons at age 4 in her native Montreal, then studied in Paris and at the Juilliard School in New York. Her career was launched in 1974 when the legendary Arthur Rubinstein became her mentor after her prize-winning performance at his inaugural Master Piano Competition, calling her a “born Chopin interpreter”. Since then she has performed with the foremost orchestras and conductors worldwide. Her discography includes many award-winning recordings, including the BBC Music Magazine’s 2013 Instrumental CD of the Year award as well as a Juno Award in 2018. She’s an Officer of the Order of Canada and received the Governor-General’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in Classical Music, as well as three honorary doctorates.
